Stella Gika
1) σε χαμένα ίχνη αεροπλάνου;
2) σε βυθισμένα πλοία;
3) σε χρηματισμό βουλευτή;
4) σε κανένα γάμο "διάσημου";
5) στην Αμφίπολη;;;;;
6) κάτι λιγότερο αναφερόμενο;
ή μήπως εκεί που θα ψάχνουμε για το φλουρί θα προκύψει ο νέος πρωθυπουργός - νέα κυβέρνηση, όπου θα περάσουν νέοι νόμοι και δε θα καταλάβουμε τίποτα;;;
Stella mou glykia, as you know so well, my Greek is not good at all, having begun to learn Greek after the age of 25, and having spoken so little Greek until I came to Greece to live, after my 65th year. I think that I have understood most of what you have written. And who could disagree with you? Your description is absolutely on target. So true. No one could disagree with you. I guess that I cannot resist to write this, because you are young. Because the only hope for Greece is its youth. You. You and your friends are the future. The only hope. When I was in school, as a youth until my 17th year, first and foremost we were taught (brainwashed) about personal responsibility. Personal obligations toward our neighbourhood and our State and our country. WE are responsible. We can all complain and whine and nag and cry. But how many of us lifts even a small finger to make things better? To clean a neighbourhood, to wipe away the ugly graffiti from our walls and from our minds. To volunteer to teach a few hours at an orphanage. To gather food for the poor. To read in detail about those we plan to vote for. To question the politicians to their face. To oppose stupid laws in an ORGANIZED fashion. To read and LEARN history, past and recent, so that we don't make the same political mistakes over and over and over again and again. How many of us put a stop to the tiny little seemingly insignificant acts of corruption in our everyday lives? How many of us accept to pick olives or work in a position which we consider beneath us and our intellectual abilities? Alexis, who has been an ambassador for 15 years, refused help from his father who was a General and a doctor, and went to the university in the USA on full scholarships. He sold pizza, worked in his dorm house and did construction work. I myself have been working since I was 16, throughout the university and graduate school and all of my life. My Joanna spent this Christmas, all day, giving food to the poor and homeless of Los Angeles. What am I trying to say? I adore Greece and I love the Greeks. I AM GREEK. but I cannot stand the constant whining, the constant complaining that I have witnessed for the last 40 years. We are brilliant complainers but not very active nor successful in actually making things better. Please, please do not think for a moment that I am discussing you...you and Fondas have worked so hard from a young age. You do not complain. You lived and are living correct lives. And we loved/love you. But now, at the start of a New Year, I thought I would make these comments, because many young people read what you write. Yes, you are all correct to be angry. You are right to be disappointed. But until Greece is REFORMED, restructured, hauled away from it's completely rotten infra-structure, there will be no decent life for you and your children. Either reform it now, or leave. Leave for the USA or England, Germany, Australia. But know one thing. Go there and obey the law. Because if you do not obey the law, in your new countries there will be very bad consequences. I know something about this. Not from myself but from a loved one. You can run, but you cannot hide. MAKE 2015 a good, happy year. Don't expect destiny or fate or karma or the State to put it in your lap. YOU will make 2015. I love you, Stella. xoxo
